Google Ad’s New Extended Text Ad Character Counts

Nearly one year ago Google released the original Extended Text Ad to the joy of advertisers. Expanding upon the old restricted text ads giving little room to get your message across.

Google originally opened up the character counts to 2 headlines with 35 characters and 1 description of 80 characters. This was a big win from the days of 1 headline with 25 characters and 2 descriptions with 35 characters.

Search Engine Journal brought about a great point when the original Extended Text Ads were launched,

Headlines drive clicks and have the greatest opportunity to improve click-through rate. So that’s what I believe Google is saying here with regard to performance.”. You can read more from Search Engine Journal here.

Doing some quick math we can see the total character account has jumped from 95 characters to 150 characters and now to 270 characters!

Ninety of those characters are in the headline. Let’s make sure as advertisers to make the best use of that space to drive the most clicks.
